The wedding

For everybody who couldn’t take part at Mek and Nanae’s wedding, here is a little plan of what was going on at the most beautiful day of their lives.

The wedding took place October 3rd, 2004, in a little chapel in Fukujama, in Nanae’s hometown. It was a mixture of a traditional Japanese and western weddding traditions. No priest led the ceremony, and the whole thing was over within 20 minutes.

Most of the guests spoke Japanese and that’s why the ceremony was not as easy to understand for the German-speakers. At least they swore to be truthful to each other three times—in Japanese, in English, and even in German. Best man was Reto Zwyer from Birmenstorf, Switzerland, and the other witness at the marriage was Yumi Sato from Kobe, Japan.

After the ceremony, following the Japanese tradition, the real celebration started in the festival room: a delicious meal, good wine, drinks and games… Following a brief presentation, Mek and Nanae were introduced, and different speeches were told in German and Japanese. The most interesting part was that Markus and Nanae meanwhile exchanged their clothes about four times. We saw Markus either in a tuxedo or in a kimono, Nanae either in a white wedding-dress or a kimono.

Around 4pm everybody was full and happy.  Afterwards, the ones who were still feeling fit went downtown in Fukujama to meet all the good friends of the wedding-couple, who were not invited to the real ceremony. Those who were not tired had fun until the early morning.

It was one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve attended so far!

We will never forget!
